Nice shot, when I was a kid we would drive through Deming on trips between Las Cruces and So. Cal and we would see the once a day S.P passenger train and the many Frieghts. It was always exciting to see the passenger trains. The old coal tower stood for many years after the end of steam. I think UP finally knocked it down after they took over the SP.

Wonderful photo Mr. Siegel. Great job of capturing the human element.

This is, I assume, train #2, the eastbound "Sunset Limited." I love that coaling tower in the background

After some conversation with Mr. Siegel, we have determined that this train was most likely #1, the westbound "Sunset Limited." Looking at the photo again, I now see the Santa Fe yard in the distance, which helps to orient the shot, as the ATSF was to the north of the SP in Deming. (#2 was due in at 3:05, and #1 was due into Deming at 3:35 pm)
