Non-profit? Yes. Grassroots? No. While the mission has merit and the benefit's are many, this organization did not just come forth from a spontaneous community effort.

So, Andrew.................instead of rail you would prefer expansion of truck traffic to meet growing freight demand, further deteriorating our third-world freeways and infrastructure, and increasing our carbon emissions??

AJ Doyle, You have grasped the wrong end of the stick. I am amazed that you have a problem caused by people trying to stop rail expansion. It is the fact that people are trying to stop it that had me flummoxed. Here we are talking of spending 75 BILLION dollars on a high speed link to connect two cities only 200 miles apart. The main benefit will be the freeing up of the existing tracks to allow more commuter and stopping trains to be run. May I point out that the amount of money has a 'B' and not an 'M' at the start.

Let me get this straight Andrew………….in your first post you clearly support people who are trying to stop expansion of rail traffic. Then you are amazed that I have a personal problem with those people who are trying to stop expansion of rail traffic (which I do). Finally you are baffled at the fact that people are trying to stop expansion of rail traffic. Which side are you on, if any? And I’m unclear where your high-speed analogy fits in, since the topic of the photo and remarks is freight and not passenger. I sense you are referring to HS2 in the UK, since the numbers are not correct for California High-Speed Rail (68 Billion for 500 miles SF-LA), a project that I actually work on.
