This is a backside (trackside) photo. Checking Wikipedia, the front entrance side of the building is shown and really looks good. Unfortunately, not too long after this RP picture was taken all trains moved to the D&RGW depot and finally in 1999 Amtrak moved to the Salt Lake City Intermodal Hub. On the bright side, the UP station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

This shot is a bit of a puzzlement as the shadows indicate mid afternoon but both trains From California were due in the morning, while the trains To California were not due to arrive until well after dark. Maybe this was a special?

I believe this whole area is a park now, and street.
