2706 is the tender of a 2-6-6-6 Allegheny. 2716 was once in the Roanoke Transportation museum and that may be the tender that was mated with it. After the 1985 flood the mismatch was discovered.

I believe the C&O Alleghenys were 1600s. The 2705 (2700 thru 2789) is a 2-8-4 (Kanawha on the C&O).

The 2700 series engines on the C&O where 2-8-4s and were called Kanawhas, the 2-6-6-6 Alleghenies were in the 1600 series

Fuzzy memory strikes again, but I do remember that the Allegheny we had at Roanoke was being prepared for moving after the 1985 flood and the numbers were indeed mismatched.
