I personally wish the SPSF merger had been approved, I rather liked the "Kodak" units in the Kodachrome scheme. The only reason the "Surf-Board" didn't approve the merger was because they were upset at both railroads and the "arrogantly" assumed approval with the premature painting of the locomotives for the merger, (what it all boiled down to!). It's interesting to note that the Santa Fe put the SF letters toward the rear of the long hood, so that there was room for the SP to go on closer to the cab and in front and the Southern Pacific reversed it with the SP closer to the cab to make adding the SF easier to add towards the rear. I'm tired of the "Pumpkins" and the unfinished NIKE "swoosh"!

Note the clean 40-foot boxcar in the backgroud still earning its keep. Seeing one in revenue service had become a rarity by 1986.
