Love the monochrome feel of the picture.

The ALCO "C6" series were all Herculean Monsters. It is a real shame that we got to spend so little time with them.

I was visiting a Aunt in Plymouth, Indiana and wandered down to the tracks. They moved most trains to the ex NYC by this time. But this time I seen a head light off to the east. Here comes 2 ALCO's ripping the air for all its worth and looking just like your photo oily and never washed. Must of had 60+ in hand.Cool shot.

I lived in Chicago the winter and spring of 1974. In March we ranged form 70 degree temps to blizzards, very austere environment, but what a place to be in those days for railroad action!

One of the things that I personally love about this hobby, is the variety of interests within the common theme of railroading. This picture is not something that I would have noticed then because I wasn't a fan of Alcos or the PC, but I very much enjoyed it now. (You learn what you missed when you get older). Thank you for sharing, and I would've loved to have known what that would have sounded like back then.

Nice capture of a time not so glorious for the railroads, but hugely important. Great Photo Mike
