I doubt they were all cut in - probably a power balancing move. Surprising to see so much jointed rail on the curve by 1982.

Well looking at the exhaust at least 6 of them are 'cut in'. Great to see Conrail locomotives. One of my first model American locos was a Proto 2000 Conrail loco.

Many of us miss the sound of EMD 645 engines in action. Recently I was able to follow a Montana Rail Link train with a trio of SD45s. Hope to post a few shots soon.
