I'm fairly certain this would violate a rule or seventy in the US

One does have to wonder HOW the crew can actually see out of the cab. Sitting on the coupler MUST be ONE ROUGH RIDE.

The windscreen nearest the photographer does look reasonably clear of humanity and luggage, the other window is more than a little obscured! The most precarious position has to be sitting on top of the coupling, one slip and you're history. Sitting on the carriage roofs isn't too bad, getting down from there using just pipework and lamp brackets for foot holes isn't fun though!

Wonder who's sitting next to the Exhaust Stack. That must be a Toasty Seat !!!

There are some videos of this type of movement. One guy, hanging on the side, bails off at around 40 mph. Thankfully, they didn't show the landing.

Having travelled on the potholed roads I believe that these people are making a rational decision to travel on the train. The risks of travelling on the train are probably much less than travelling by bus.
