We see mixed gauge train. While locomotives are wide gauge (we see wheels on external rail), rest of train are narrow gauge (wheels are on internal rail). To do this, locomotives are linked to train via special flat-car.

Never see this in North America. Will the cars eventually be wide gauge, as well? Interesting photo!

Yes, of course. They have some broad gauge railcars. But narrow gauge tracks spread much more widely in Brazil than broad ones.
