The SDP45 looks like the experimental 6599 with the 7-axle truck configuration, C on front, B+B on the rear. My spotting feature is the shortened fuel tank that allows the air reservoir to extended farther back than the fuel tank. It was converted in 1984 and tested by EMD, then it ran in this configuration until retired in late 1987.

I've been amazed that GE stood by that crappy prime mover the had for so many years. We bought great parts off ofF units that were in great condition except for the FDL.
