It was returned to MotivePower for a rebuild from the 16-cylinder EMD 710GB to twin Cummins QSK60 engines to meet US EPA Tier 4 emissions standards.

I don't think this is an accident victim. I think it's one of the units GO contracted for rebuilding with low-emissions Cummins power plants. Of course the logic of rebuilding units that are almost brand-new escapes me as a taxpayer (they could have used an old F59PH as a platform)...

Interesting, wonder if they intend to reuse the cab? There are some notices in the side windows, bet they would give a clue to it fate. Unusual find thanks for sharing it with us at RP.

Theres sight that you don't see everyday! Being a Cummins diesel fan I'm curious to hear how the twin Cummins engines perform.

Definitely not an accident victim. I shot it headed west to MPI on 5-5-2012 at Copetown, ON on CN #393.

GO #647 is one of 11 MPI MP40PH-3C's that GO is having repowered with dual Cummins QSK60 diesel engines by MPI. MPI is also building 10 additional brand new MP40's with the QSK60 diesels as well for GO.
