Wonderful picture. Two of my favorite subjects; trains and lake boats. Side-note: Arthur Atkinson was the president of the Wabash for a time, late 40's I believe. The AKA was rebuilt at about that time, hence it receiving his name.

From the time when ships were still good-looking!

Great shot! Any idea of the 3rd ferry in the far-left side of the frame?

There is a third vessel in the frame, in the background to the left of AA no. 10. Positive ID is nearly impossible, but she is most likely the City of Milwaukee, a ferry built in 1931, leased by the Chesapeake & Ohio to the Ann Arbor from 1978 to 1983. The City spent most of her service life moving cars across Lake Michigan from Ludington, Mich., to several ports in Wisconsin.

As many may know already, the AKA sat for several years in Kewaunee, WI by the old docks for loading prior to being towed for her final resting some years ago. Unfortunately, it was not the AKA that I took across when I was 3 years old but the City Of Midland 41 from Kewaunee to Ludington, MI. Great Capture From Times Gone By Kyle!

Very nice photo of some unique history. The SS City of Milwaukee was leased by the Ann Arbor from the Grand Trunk, due to the AKA being laid up with a bad crankshaft. The "City" operated from Muskegon, MI to Milwaukee, WI during its GT history. The "City" is now currently a museum in Manistee, MI. The AKA is or has been scrapped recently. And the Viking is in Marinette, WI being turned into a barge.
