Nice shot in the sun. Are the trains normally DL hauled now? It seemed that way 2 months ago when I was in the area on holiday.

Andrew, does all the rolling stock in NZ now have automatic couplers?

John, the DL's are widely used in the area, mostly on milk trains, and on the NIMT. I have found though that they do not usually appear on the New Plymouth trains, which in recent times are run by the DFx class. Loren, the old hook and pin couplers are steadily being phased out, and I believe about 70% of the rolling stock has now been converted to automatic couplers, locos included. All the recent new container wagons imported from China came equipped with them, and a large number of existing stock has been converted too.
