Charles, I think you mean "northern end of the HUDSON Line" ? FL-9s were ALSO used on the upper end of the Harlem Line, usually with slightly shorter trains and occasionally singly, which was very risky considering their reliability (or lack thereof) during that time period. Checking out the Croton North "junkyard" (background of this photo) was always a highlight of a trip up the Hudson Line. That charred relic off to the right WAS the Croton North Freight Station.

Rode a FL9 last year at the Railroad Museum of New England. It has beenb their main locomotive to pull their trains.

Stripped out coaches left to rust, a burnt out building and rag tag equipment. Sums up Penn Central in the 70's. Awesome shot.
