Nice shot John. Good luck Jim in your quest. I was out there at the time of the washout in September. The Eldora Lodge near Pinecliffe is a great place to stay, IMO.

I could never understand why railroad surveyors never followed the addage, "The shortest distance between two points is a straight line!" The curve looks sooo un-necessary, and railroads place them in the most unlikely places. I know it has something to do with elevation difference, but still it looks odd. Great photo John, I hope you were warm while taking the picture. I hope there was a way to drive to this location so you didn't have to hike through all the snow! Awesome scenery!

Common sense is all one needs to understand the adage "the shortest distance between two points is a straight line" does NOT apply to railroad surveyors.
