Wow, this is really great stuff. You cannot be that old though. I'm wondering about that care they are towing. What is it?

Great shot David. I hope you have more.

That car is a rider car , also known as a head end caboose. They were used by the Monon to handle LCL freight and crew members on locals. Remarkable shot.

Sid Vaught - those were known as Rider Cars, built by the Monon Shops in Lafayette. From the website www.monon.org; "Also known as Head End Cabooses. Was the name the Monon applied to several cars used to haul less than carload freight and crew members on local freights. Eight cars were constructed by the Lafayette Shops, but other cars were also used.

Thanks for the info. I have been a railfan for over fifty years and have read almost everything it seems but the " rider cars" are new to me. No wonder Monon was so cherished by its fans. Those are uniquely quaint.

I am shocked by the quality of the image. I can usually spot shots that are not digital, but this looks like a much more recent shot.

The car in tow looks like a makeshift caboose made from a boxcar. Neat shot from the Monon.
