Neat locos, not something you see everyday. Motive power used to be more varied in the past.

One of the more cantankerous lokies ever made, the Alco C415s were great fun for railfans though. I lived in chicago, home base for the CRIPs fleet of ten mid height cab units. They spent their lives in matched pairs or lashed up with RS2/3ms in transfer, switching service. Occasionally they would venture to Peoria for a wild fling on local service. Slippery, prone to overheating, totally over complicated mechanically, cramped cabs with poor visibility etc, etc..... But. They put on a magnificent rattling show, blasting great plumes of smoke, badly balanced V8s chugging with turbos howling away.... Nice shot, Joe.
