That is a very, very large splitcase pump, possibly 54" discharge. I can imagine it's heading from the foundry to the manufacturer. Nowadays, we have castings of this size these shipped in a container, but since they are so bulky, a gondola is a great idea. The casting closest to the locomotive is the lower casing and the upper casing is in front. That's an easy 100k lbs of cast iron! As a pump engineer myself, I love this pic! Thanks for posting!
