Interesting use of the railway to haul trees from the recent windstorm.

This is not the reason why. Fast growing evergreen trees were planted in the last 50 years to support both figuratively and in reality the South Wales mining industry. Unfortunately deep coal mining has all but disappeared from South Wales and there are lots is prime forest ready for harvesting but no mines. This year has seen the wood sold for use in the Kyrospan woodchip factory in Chirk and seen a number of things return: The use of Class 56 locomotives again, which were all withdrawn from service for several years, The movement of felled trees by rail in South Wales (probably a first) and the return of freight to Baglan Bay, not used since the closure of the chemical works.

Derek, the destination is Chirk Kronospan, not Kyrospan
