A testament to the solid construction of the cars that there were no fatalities and only 5 injured aboard the train. Looks like the truck struck both vestibules on the cars, which likely helped keep the number of injured low, as well.

Truck Driver got his justice!

Tragic. The road the log truck was on came down a steep incline, certainly there was a brake failure or medical issue with the driver before impact.

Very fortunate to have struck the vestibules, so long as nobody was in them... Utterly terrible, and eerie for myself to think about how I was on board these very cars just a few months ago.

The accident is unfortunate and Michael Tonne's comment is inappropriate.

I am not defending anyone, but there are dozens of crossings out there that see such limited use, like this one, people forget they are there. Same thing happened in Bayard, WV a few years ago. A truck driver may go over a crossing several times a day for years and years and never see a train. It has been since 1994 that this line has had "regular" traffic when Hickory Lick Mine loaded it's last coal train.

All trucks should be on trains.
|
I truly can't see any justice due the trucker, and the comment saying he got it was undue. No one may ever know the reason behind the tragedy. Thanks for sharing the picture and information with us Chase. I enjoy
your pictures very much.

If you mess with a train it will win , no matter what you are driving, trains as well as tractor / trailers can not stop on a dime , do-not even try

A tragic reminder of the insurance liabilities placed on small tourist short-lines that sometimes prevent their operation.

They stood up fairly well. Will they be repaired?

Lackawanna Edison MUs. Very sturdy stock.

I dont know if those cars can be repaired or not. Looks pretty bad. If they are found to have frame damage, might be the end of the line for them. Sad.

I've had an "A" license (U.S. CDL) for 20+ years, sadly this looks like a mechanical or medical incident. I Google mapped this area with the "Terrain" tab. It's downhill to the crossing and had the driver missed the train, it doesn't look like he (she?) would have made the curve at the White Top Rd. intersection. Condolences to the family and get well to the passengers.
