I am from Ohio and know something of the FL9 and the dual mode electricals, but the trucks are not the standard EMD fare. Any explanation would be welcome.

I was so lucky to catch one of these in 2004 when they were still in service. I am happy to see them stored, not scrapped. 2004 pic is Photo ID: 63895

6-wheel truck on the rear to help support the extra weight of the engine's dual-mode capabilities on the Park Avenue Viaduct in New York City. At least, that's been the explanation that I've always heard.

The trucks are custom for the FL9 for New Haven. Those shoes on the side pickup power from a third rail. Mike
