My old station when I went to Syracuse University. Loved to hang out and watch early Amtrak and Penn Central action.

Yep, this was my Syracuse station while I attended SU as well. I remember how crowded and un-user friendly it was back then (mid-1970s). It's nothing like the 'newer' Amtrak/Centro station in use now. Thanks for this photo, Matt. It brings back a host of memories both good and poor.

The real thanks goes to my dad, who brought me to ride and watch trains since I was 3. I'm glad you guys appreciate this shot - it's with a 35mm point and shoot and well before I knew much of anything about photography. I have many memories here as well, standing on this platform waiting for a headlight to appear in the distance.

… I can agree and relate to the previous comments about this location and photograph … I have also spent a lot of time thru the years at the station I called " A Pre Amtrak NYC/PC Hamshack " … It was a terrible replacement for the beautiful NYC built elevated station on Erie Blvd. in downtown Syracuse … Poorly administered urban and transportation planning in Central N.Y.

Downtown Syracuse became a "walled" city, cut off from the east and north by I-81 and I-695 and from the west and south by the Lackawanna elevated tracks. Now, with the I-81 viaduct in need of replacement they are considering eliminating and rerouting I-81 over the current I-481, which passes over DeWitt Yard.
