I hope a few are saved so that they may continue tearing up and down the NEC on special trains. Not the prettiest of locos it must be said, but they are electric, and that's what counts in this particular train driver's opinion. No amount of 'clean diesels' will replace the acceleration and fuel savings of a 'sparky'. The main freight hauliers of the USA will soon realise this. The Milwaukee road knew the score. Shame it was at the wrong time.

The AEM-7's are being replaced by ACS-64's, which are also electric motors. Amtrak's NEC is in need of new power since most of these Swedish meatballs have over 3-million miles on them.

I understand what you are all saying, BUT, personally I doubt VERY much that the AEM-7s will be "MISSED" by anyone. They generate about as much interest and visual appeal as the "toasters" they are so aptly nicknamed for. Now GG-1s, THEY were a LOCOMOTIVE !
