Sorry but the phrase "friction bearing trucks" makes no sense, I assume that the poster is referring to non roller bearing fitted trucks?

Certainly captures the drama ... you can almost imagine that hot, distinctive, oily odor wafting through the air after the train passed. A unique snapshot of the essence of railroading.

Sorry, if I have created any confusion. I indeed mean "non-roller bearing equipped" trucks. For the twenty years that I worked for the railroad, everyone, including the carmen that replaced the bearings, referred to them as "friction bearings."
