Thanks, Hiawatha Pete. Nice photo that I really appreciate since I would like to see this locomotive in person but doubt that I ever will. Ol' Raymond must have had a vision, and a really good one at that !!

Thanks for the compliments folks! This really is a marvelous machine, testament borne by the fact that as a class, they lasted an amazing 49 years in service. No doubt due to their formidable structural strength as well as the reliability of their electric traction system, the controls being basically a tap-changer on a transformer supplying a variable stepped-down voltage to commutator motors. Further proof that they were the pinnacle of the designers & engineer's art is that they have been recognized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers as a National Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark. If you're ever in the area of Strasburg or anywhere else one of the 16 surviving GG1's are displayed, it really is worthwhile to visit and have a look at a fine locomotive. Best Regards, Hiawatha Pete.
