Interesting pastel orange color coding on m.u. connections - was that a choice on account of true orange having too little contrast with the red buffer beam?

What are the 4 hinged white circles along the rear wall of the cab?

When open, the disc showed a white face, with a light shining through a hole in the lower half of the disc. Closed, by folding the top half down, the white face and light were obscured. The disc could also be folded up, obscuring the face but leaving the light visible. The lights were independently switched. The disc system was an early attempt at train identification - various combinations of discs indicated different classes of train. The combination of discs displayed in this shot would, for example indicate a Royal Train working.
