From what I have read I agree with your description. The SR had great success with the GE Universal types. I cannot remember if the Southern Railway operated any U33B/C units. Does anyone know if they did or not. I also remember that NJ Transit had success with the Universal types as well. The old "Blue Birds" flew around the Garden State pretty regularly up until the 1990's.

The Southern had 10 U33C units numbered from 3805 to 3814.

And most of them are still chugging today! These oddballs have outlived many of the GE's that came after it.

Thanks for letting me know. After I thought for a bit, I looked through some older photographs that my dad and granddad had taken and found some pics of an U33C. Good to hear that some of the older GE's are still out and about. Thanks for the info and also for the numbers.
