From the looks of those headlights (they look like gas lights) windshield wipers were not yet invented.

Nice photo Richard - excellent capture. And agreeing with the previous comments, the only windshield wipers available at the time this Steam railcar was built, were cloth rag wipes or your shirt sleeve. LOL!
