Railfans think this type of operation is really cool looking,long hood forward,bell and horns out there,as an engineer,trust me,this stinks.You have the turbo bulge in front of you,plus 55/60 feet of hood,not much to help you see anything.

Gordon you are right on the mark. However those lazy brakemen had to do their job and not sleep. The other side of the coin was running short hood and you were on the left. I wdould rather be on the right.

The reason those brakemen had to stay awake, was that with all of that long hood out front they had to Call Out the line side signals when rounding left handed curves just as had been needed on steam engines.
