I had the privilege to talk with Ed during one of the 844 displays in Arizona in 2011, he is a very pleasant individual and willing to talk trains with you. Great story Craig and a nice photo to go along with it.

I believe his baby...No.844 is getting work done to her. And really who wouldn't want someone who has experience operating a 4-8-4 working on yours? Cool to see guys who love railroading sharing it with the youth, possibly a future operator of the 3751. Great Photo! PCA for me!

Yep, I was surprised to see Ed on the platform and on the crew! Chatted with him briefly. He is very approachable and friendly to everyone.

He made an impression this day that young man will carry for a lifetime. Who knows, he may have just started the twinkle for his new replacement! Great job, PCA for me!

A Real Gentleman, taking the time to show the young boy the engine and I bet he made that young boys dream come true, and taking with other people.

People who are majorly involved into steam programs are generally very nice people such as Ed because they are doing something they love to do, and what makes you happier than doing something you love and talking to people with the same interests? Plus Public Relations are a BIG part of a steam program like the 3751, 844, 3985, 4449, etc.

Well, we appreciated Mr. Dickens taking the time for this photo too! My son, Nathan, loves to wear his engineer outfit on our various steam excursions, but paradoxically he doesn't always like the attention he gets from doing so. Mr. Dickens made him feel quite comfortable in front of this locomotive, and he will definitely remember the event. Sticking his head out in the wind on the Pony Express car during the ride back to L.A. was a thrill as well. Clearly a PCA vote from me, what photo could be better?

Andre - I've got old home movies of me getting on a PA-1-powered "San Diegan" in Fullerton dressed the same way! Nathan has nothing to be worried about. I suspect many of us had overalls and an engineer's hat when we were kids. (I'm glad you found the photo!)

A snapshot of the best part of our hobby: bringing people together to make good memories. Thanks for sharing it and all the best to this boy and his family.

I heard that the 844 is going on another excursion in June and that the 844 will also have another Cheyenne Frontier Days excursion in July.
