The UP steam crew numbered this a number above the highest-numbered Challenger CRR owned. Those engines were bought after D&RGW returned them to the lessor after WWII. D&RGW ordered Challengers from Baldwin aty their specs, but War Production Board restrictions on steel required a common design, so the UP Jabelmann design was erected. They were not well-liked by D&RGW, and were promptly returned after WWII ended. They attempted to sell them to UP, whose design they matched, but UP was not interested. CRR eventually bought them.
