This is probably the highest railroad bridge in use in NZ now at 79m / 258' and is near the Last Spike where the rails from Auckland and Wellington met in 1908. The Northern Explorer train replaced the Overlander service that ran each way each day of operation with the north-bound and southbound trains normally crossing at Makatote just behind the photographer.
