Now that's the Clifton Forge I remember as a little kid, and longed for as a young adult. One of my favorite railroad towns anywhere. Thanks for posting!

Olive Hill, KY was my favorite. Let me not mistake my age for anything older than I am (16). But the C&O was one of the best railroads IMO.

I'll add my "Amen" to son James's comment above. Clifton Forge has always been a favorite, and remains so, as headquarters of the C&O Historical Society, and site of the Society's heritage center.

Olive Hill, Kentucky, Home of the Olive Hill Helpers. A very steep grade west bound required help with any train over a certain number of loads. The Lexington Sub was also home of the Louisville, Ky. leg of The George Washington passenger train which was split at Ashland, Kentucky, with the main portion continuing north to Cincinnati, Ohio and the west bound section using C & O rails to Lexington and using trackage rights over the L & N to Louisville, Ky.

It would be intresting to see a photo from this location and spot if possible of what it looks like today for those of us that are not familiar with this area.
