Nice shot, Charles. Looks like they decided the branch was narrow gauge. :) Actually, the statue of the trackwalker appears very accurate, including the Adlake lantern and the spike maul.

To Frank: It would be perfectly normal for a steam era track walker to walk inside the gauge. That's the only way he could see both rails, looking for loose track bolts and other problems. The "inside the gauge" no-no is a much later "rule" of our more safety-obsessed times. Come to think of it---he should have a track wrench as well as a spike maul.

My Wife and I bike this every morning. We start here and head west. This statue is about 1/2 mile west of Burbank Jct. The wye is still there, but all that remains of the branch terminates about 100 feet east of this statue. I grew up along this branch, and in the 1960's this WAS the SP to me.
