How did the train derail in the first place? Was the industrial track line for it?

From another slide I just scanned, it appears the cab end truck on 411 picked a switch point, dragging the adjacent units off the track as well.

The Park Ave. bridge looks almost pristine back then! I think that wye track that engine picked the switch for was the one that a LV train was making a set-out on in a photo that is in the Bob Pennisi "Northeast Railroad Scene - A Look Before Conrail" book.
