Nice view, Jim. Too bad you didn't get a southbound!

Living here in Washington, DC, my ears perked up when I heard of a study to REPLACE this aging two-track ex-PRR bridge with a new, higher-capacity modern structure just upriver from it. The current Long Bridge serves CSX, Amtrak, and VA Railway Express, making it quite an East Coast bottleneck. If a new three-track bridge is built by 2014, there is talk of a rails-to-trails conversion linking East Potomac Park with Gravely Point Park in the foreground. Interesting!! I attended a public meeting for the "Long Bridge Project" and there appears to be Federal money waiting to make if work if CSX wants to cooperate.
