Interesting details to go along with it as well. Makes you wonder why they don't just simply begin milling it here or why Portland refused to simply wait a little bit longer to purchase the block rail which is now made in the US. Seems the block rail would be more expensive using more steel, however.

Thanks, Mitch! FSWood is exactly right: It'll cost on the order of a half-million dollars just to cut the roller for girder rail, and there simply isn't enough demand for streetcar rail in the US to make that a worthwhile proposition for the mills. Portland did purchase block rail and it was installed on the SW Moody Project. It is more expensive than girder rail, but given the options available in the current funding environment it's what agencies have to work with.

With the resurgence in light rail in the US - seems someone got into the game late. Best of luck to them. Wonder though - is the girder rail patented or so costly that it can't be licensed for production here?
