Brian, a wonderful photograph that evokes happy memories of childhood visits to see my maternal grandparents in Huddersfield. More please!

These Kenneth Field masterpieces are stunning evocations of the Yorkshire of my youth. The valley has now 'softened' with the remaining mill buildings now mostly converted to swish apartments and most of the chimneys felled in true Fred Dibnah fashion! The line still remains and has good passenger services though it's rationalised to two lines. Needless to say many once open views are now gone as most of the line is sandwiched between an avenue of trees.

My friend Chris Taylor e-mailed me to add the following:- "this photo was taken from Kenneth's garden. The mills in the background are at Slaithwaite (pronounced locally Slaa-wit) whilst the huts immediately behind the loco is a chicken farm owned by family friends when I lived in Linthwaite".
