Wow this is a revealing picture, considering the consist. 1. This was a low priority train. 2. The high hood U-25Bs did not spend their entire lives in storage.

It certainly looks like all men and equipment have their work cut out here. With the steep hillside in so close proximity to the nearside track, it looks like the wreckers would have difficulty deploying any outriggers to spread their loads for the lifting process. I would think all the heavy lifting has to be done from the inside track. I can detect an extended outrigger from the silver crane that is in position above its cribbing (just in front of the black wrecker). Great shot… I love these.

My first college roommate at the University of Missouri was from St. Mary's, KS in the same county (Pottawatomie, or "Pot County" as he said it was nicknamed) 2 communities south of this town, and he worked on the UP track gangs in the summers. Loved trains as well. Great guy.

Great stuff, and grateful that people like you were able to capture this type of activity on film. Because you sure won't see anything like it these days when an accident happens.
