A very beautiful spot on the Clarkfork River. The bluffs were carved by the rushing waters of an ancient Lake Missoula formed by the damming of this river by glaciers in the ice age. The huge lake slowly put pressure on the ice, finally breaking the dam and causing a rush of water that drained the lake, cutting the mountains in this area. This is reported to happen as many as 70 times ages ago. I was a young worker for the Burlington Northern on Welding Crew#3 in the early 1970's enjoying perhaps one of the most beautiful areas of the American west. We welded track, fighting the deep winter snows that fall here.
