The Magnificent GG-1! What all electric locomotives want and should be!! I wish I would have been a young man in the golden days when these great locomotives ran daily for the PRR.

Actually, the GG1 is coupling to a northbound train on the Perth Amboy line ; from the New York & Long Branch, at the junction with the Mainline. During rushhour some changeovers from either steam or Diesel were made here, instead of at South Amboy.

When I was around seven years old, I visited my dad's office in midtown Manhattan. As a lunchtime treat, he took took me over to Pennsylvania Station (yes, the magnificent original edifice). A kindly gate agent allowed us past the scissor gates to the dimly lit tracks below. There, in all its glory, was Mountain View, the blunt-end observation car to the Broadway Limited. The lights in the lounge exuded a warm glow behind the open blinds in its windows. Curls of steam wafted up from the track at the back of the car, adding to its aura of class and mystery. As I drank this all in, I was slightly startled to see a train glide in on an adjacent track, pulled by a hulking GG1. What startled me was that the locomotive and its train had arrived without making a sound. I wished my dad and I could get aboard right then and there and glide away to some distant city. That moment in that dimly looming great space cemented my passion for trains
