We had to work with these first-generation K-Ms on the western division between Fresno and Roseville. They were fine when you had a direct fast freight/chain-gang run. But when you had a drag that had to do some switching and several set-outs and pick-ups, they were miserable. The engineers could only see the signals of us trainmen on the ground by contorting them selves into uncomfortable positions. And the engines were poorly suited for the short, quick bursts of power needed for switching cars. But this photo brings back lots of memories. Great shot!
