All the great photographers own the very best equipment. I could never afford a tripod that tall. Great shot, Mike! Can even make out the three individual lights. Hopefully, that train comes to a stop before falling off the edge of the planet.

I could be wrong, but I can't imagine those basins making much difference in the lake level. I thought they were for mineral production.
