The engineer probably stayed high and dry (hot too), but the poor fireman must of had it rough running up and down the stairs trying to fire this lady! Imagine trying to keep your balance at the rear of the locomotive while this thing was in motion and shoveling coal without the benefit of a cab surrounding the firebox door area protecting fireman should he fall. Thanks for sharing this unique glimpse in the evolution of the steam locomotive.
