These locomotives are in pitiful condition!

This is a disgrace!

Wow they need a good paint job!

Yes, some of the Museum pieces are in need of immediate restoration (heck, it's the first thing the public sees when entering the Museum), however, a significant portion of the Museum's collection has been moved indoors and in excellent condition. Take a good look at the Roundhouse - if you recall, it had collapsed in 2003 yet look at it now, and then look inside and witness several restored locomotives that had significant damage yet have since been beautifully restored.

I'm sure the Museum has their hands full but donations and multiple visits would certainly help! Or, click here and become a member!

Poor Steamers!

Its great that these were saved, but don't let them become a disgrace...I think these pieces are deserving of a little paint now and then, especially if they're going to be kept outside. Thanks for posting.

Doesn't CSX technically own these locomotives here? Nice photo, but wow.

Great shot of fabulous locos. I know they look a "weathered" now, but I expect that when money and time permit, their external condition (at least) will be improved.

Thanks for posting this, Mitch. As tough as it is to look at, an image like this serves to get the word out that ALL of our favorite museum's need our support. Whether we volunteer our time, or donate a few extra dollars at the door, every little bit helps.

It's not a disgrace, if everything was shiny and newly painted, everyone would think the museum was being well funded and staffed. Great way to encourage membership.

Trains Magazine stated on 9-9-2013 that the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad expressed interest in acquiring this locomotive to supplement 2-8-0 #734! It's a perfect fit, not only for the considerable grades and length /weight of the trains (especially in the Fall and in December), but also - believe it or not, it just happens to fit on the turntable!

Today they announced that indeed 1309 will come back to life on Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. Fantastic!
