By far the best of the EMDs. Amazing job there, NS!!!!
Best one yet!
Without a doubt, my favorite one so far. Long live the Wabash! Follow the Flag!
Man that is stunning casey. Can't wait to see this one in Spencer.
Stunning color! This engine was definitely worth the long and expectated wait.
The Bluebird flies again!
What a class act!
Makes me want to sing:
Oh listen to the jingle
The rumble and the roar
Hey, what do you know? Apparently, I'm now a die hard Wabash fan! Great job NS! Oh, obviously, an NS fan, too!

Great job there to the Muncie paint department...... you guys rock!!!!! Only skilled and attention to detail painters could pull this off for NS...... Beautiful work
That's Sick. Follow the Flag.
Insane picture
Absolutely stunning. I knew from the day of the announcement that this would be one of the longer waits, and it was well worth it. My favorite unit by far, the only one that will come in a close second will be the ITC unit. This is nothing but fantastic. I love the subtle point in the curve of the gray up on nose, a detail directly reminiscent of the GP7 and GP9s, which got it directly from the F-Units. Awesome. Can't wait to shoot it splitting WAB Searchlights in Western Missouri.

OK someone is going to get upset with me but this paint job is not accurate. The "stripe" BELOW the blue section should be white as well as the short stripe in back of the word "Wabash." Now granted I am looking at both a photo and model of a Wabash FM H24-66 Trainmaster which this SD70ACe is NOT, but the white/blue/gray would provide more contrast to each other as well as being more accurate. Just my two cents.
This unit has that GM styling group look from the late '40's. The scheme was replaced by a blue dip job, that N&W adopted for a while in the late '50's/early '60's.

Oh and I forgot, the handrails on the steps? Those should be white, NOT yellow. I am very disappointed and this was the Heritage unit I have been waiting for the most.

Now that's just beautiful! By far the best Heritage unit to date!!
Awesome!
Nice Job, we can "Follow the Flag" all over again.
So far my favorite by far! Outstanding job NS!
Renee, the Wabash had them painted both this way and the way you describe. Right now I am looking at a photo of #1002, and it is grey blue grey, while #1001 A was grey blue and white.
Renee: I just looked at a Wabash book, and it appears that the original scheme had the stripes you referred to as silver, and handrails/ step edges were blue. In later years they may have repainted some of those stripes white, but the handrails/step edges seem to be yellow. As far as I can tell, they did an excellent modern-day rendition, because the stripes here are silver, not gray. Excellent job NS and Progress, keep them coming, you're making us proud!
All right! Now let's send this one to Chicago!
Great work, again NS ... well done!
Happy Birthday to me! Thank you NS!

This appears to be a rather accurate copy of the scheme applied to the GP7s and 9s, modified to fit modern safety requirements. The white part of the lower stripe is necessary to 'hide' the required reflective stripe. And I haven't yet found a photo of any Wabash Geeps that had their handrails painted anything but blue. The yellow is a nice contrast. Steps on cab units that had the final 'blue dip' scheme were painted yellow, so maybe that's where they got the choice of yellow instead of white.
Great looking lokie! First stop after Spencer had better be Decatur!
NS,Casey and Progress Rail: Again you people have hit a big time home run. If I could be married to a locomotive, this would be it.
They just keep getting better and better! This one would look great paired with the CofG unit.
Did anyone notice they painted the knuckle on this unit?
No one has mentioned it in this thread, but as far as the handrails go, it's a requirement that they are an opposing color. Each heritage unit has yellow handrails. They are safety items that need to be visible.
Renee, The handrail is yellow for safety reasons. If you look at the other heritage units, they are also yellow.

@Chad C: What "Wabash book" do you have? Although I am originally from St. Louis, MO, I don't think I ever saw more than two or three Wabash locomotives before their merger into the N & W as the merger was about the time I was 13 or 14! Thank you.
I must say, now we have a heritage unit to give the Reading ACE a run for it's money. Very nice.

Looks great!
The Blue Bird has finally arrived and doesn't she just look gorgeous! Thank you Norfolk Southern and EMD/Progress Rail for raising this once "fallen flag"!
Its funny how some of the units I wasn't really excited about seeing in the beginning have actually turned out to be some of my favorites...like this beauty !
I was expecting all the ACes to have really boring paint schemes because the GEs got the major merger roads with flashy colors, glad I was wrong!
