Anyone know when ALTO lost it's cupola? I never saw it with the cupola in place. In 1962, it was not there, but the helpers were not F3s, but RSD7s, RSD12s, RSD15's, SD9s and RS3s. (and Train Masters?. I know they were at Cresson as late as 1965, but I suspect they worked on locals out of there).

That's clearly an F-unit shoving behind the caboose, not an RS. Nice shot from historic Altoona. Thanks for posting.

Many thanks to all the folks for their fine comments about my photos. I have wondered sometimes wheter my efforts over the past 60 plus years were worth the effort and now in this computer age I know that it was.

Such a classic Altoona/PRR photo! Your photo clearly shows that diesels have gained a foot hold on steam operations. It also appears that the turn table for turning helper locomotives is still in exeistance in the upper left of the photo. Thanks for sharing.
