These heritage paint schemes are GORGEOUS locos. What do you say we sandblast and paint those wheels? Of all the Heritage schemes the terribly rusty wheels just take away from the pristine look. Otherwise, all these are sweet!

Looks good

I believe wheels, (and couplers,) are not painted because it makes it difficult to detect cracks in the castings. The one exception is silver paint, which actually is an aid in locating cracks.
|
NWVirginianFan: You can't paint the wheels nor couplers, as it's an FRA violation. If you were to paint them, then you could hide cracks and dents when the wheels and coupler need replacing.
Good-looking engine, by the way.

The rust will disappear after a few days, besides painting wheels is against AAR rules.

This beautiful locomotive and beautiful photo of the locomotive are going onto my favorites list. Thank you to Norfolk Southern and all the folks who cleverly made this project happen. I'm a long-time railfan and rider. My very first long distance train was the New York Central's Ohio State Limited. If the 'Water Level Route' had survived to the present day, they would have been proud to have a loco like this on their roster as well as a photographer such as this one to take the photo.
Again, thanks! You made my Monday morning.

They can't paint the wheels or the couplers. It is against regulation to paint them because then you can't detect cracks or imperfections that would cause the wheel to break down of cause a derailment. Great looking engine. I'm still partial to the Pennsy unit myself, but I may be slightly biased haha.

Beautiful heritage and picture

Ah, if things had progressed in a better manner, NYC would still be around and they'd own SD70ACe's (Doubt it, though, NYC would have ordered ES44dc's..). This unit looks fantastic.

Yawn...about as boring as the Conrail unit.
|
NS and Casey: my usual comment "you have hit another one out of the park" The big ACe looks really sharp!
|
Hooray! NS has finally come up with my favorite RR heritage unit. The New York Central. My Dad fired on the NYC until he decided he wanted to be home with his family. He then went to The South Buffalo RR which was a feeder line for the NYC. This is the best unit for me even though it may not be the most colorful. Please will some one contact me to show me how to vote for PCA's. I am new here and I do not underfstand all of the in's and out's at RP. Thanks Dave.
|
Looks good, but don't you want to see a 3 unit lash up with NYC, PRR & PC units pulling a truck train?
|
Is there a reason this one is numbered different from the rest? Just curious.
|
Congradulations guys!

Thank you for the explanation. I apparently missed the photos of 1065 when it was unveiled a few weeks ago.
|
Been waiting for this one. Did not disappoint.

She looks good, put her to work on the "Waterlevel Route".

This is a nice photo with excellent lighting, but I am wondering about Progress Rail. Are they just slower at turning out the SD70Ace's? I guess I just got addicted to Heritage units coming one or even two a week before now.
