Learned about these after purchasing book "The Second Diesel Spotter's Guide" in early 1980s. Hood unit diesels have turned out to be quite adaptable with all manner of minor to major alterations and additions.

Modifications on these units that are less visible than the "High" cabs, are the higher than normal pilot plates and lower capacity fuel tanks that provide more clearance for large rocks found between the rails in the pit.
