If all the reference I had for this color scheme was text I wouldn't like it; in photos I do like it. Lived in New England region in late 1960s and mid 1970s as a child and probably saw some ones of the time but do not remember. But something got me interested in trains and something got me interested in electrics - an interest which started as a seed and has grown throughout life.

I wonder whom the former owner was or, how many RR's owned them? I'm guessing only five.

Playing around in Google found a Wikipedia page on GP40 based locomotives; it's a little shy on source citations but it says the following, "GP40-2H In 1996, the Connecticut Department of Transportation purchased six GP40-2 freight locomotives from CSX Transportation to replace its existing fleet of leased locomotives for use in Shore Line East service, and sent them out for rebuilding and conversion to passenger locomotives. The rebuilt locomotives were given the GP40-2H designation, and were completed by AMF Technotransport in Pointe-Saint-Charles, an area of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The six units came back numbered 6694 through 6699. The GP40-2H is similar to NJ Transit's GP40PH-2 series, but sporting a smaller fuel tank. All six units remain in Shore Line East service today." There's that for what it's worth.

That's some good info, thanx. But after further review, some of those were or are GP40X's coming from out west and Canada. Check out the trucks and flared radiators.

Just found this in a Flickr album by someone named Otto Vondrak "SLE GP40-2H 6697 at New Haven, CT One of the CDOT GP40's that are assigned to Shore Line East commuter service between New Haven and New London, CT. In 1996, the Connecticut Department of Transportation purchased six GP40-2 freight locomotives from CSX to replace its existing fleet of leased locomotives for use in Shore Line East service, and sent them out for rebuilding and conversion to passenger locomotives.
